Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, was founded in 1958, originally named Ritan Hospital. In 1963, a cancer research institute was added, followed by the establishment of cancer prevention and treatment sites in high-incidence areas such as Linzhou, Henan and Qidong, Jiangsu. In 1983, it moved to the shore of Longtan Lake in southeast Beijing and was renamed Cancer Hospital and Cancer Institute, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. It passed the Grade III Class A hospital evaluation in 1996. The hospital is the supporting unit of the National Cancer Center, the National Cancer Clinical Medical Research Center, the National Cancer Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Quality Control Center, and the location of the National Drug Clinical Research Center certified by the State Food and Drug Administration. It is a landmark cancer specialty hospital that comprehensively carries out cancer-related basic research and clinical diagnosis and treatment, integrating medical treatment, teaching, research, and prevention. The hospital has a concentration of high-level talents, complete discipline settings, strong technical capabilities, and advanced equipment. It has a top domestic expert team including 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The hospital has 5 national key disciplines, 3 national clinical key specialties, and 1 Beijing key discipline. Annual outpatient visits exceed 840,000, annual inpatient admissions exceed 53,000, and annual surgeries exceed 20,000.
