Southern Medical University Third Affiliated Hospital is led by Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Zhong Shizhen and Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Yao Kaitai, with nearly 40 master's and doctoral supervisors forming an "Expert Technical Guidance Committee" for technical guidance, currently with 600 open beds. The hospital's Orthopedic Research Institute is led by Academician Zhong Shizhen, the father of clinical anatomy, as honorary director, with renowned national orthopedic expert and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Orthopedic Association Professor Jin Dadi serving as director and dean, while also transferring numerous technical backbones from Nanfang Hospital and Zhujiang Hospital. The hospital is a comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research, featuring orthopedics with coordinated multi-disciplinary development, complete discipline settings, with 61.8% of physician series holding master's degrees or above, capable of performing various large and medium-sized surgeries and minimally invasive surgeries, possessing advanced magnetic resonance imaging systems, spiral CT, color B-ultrasound, high-frequency breast X-ray machines, thoracoscopy/laparoscopy systems, arthroscopy, spinal endoscopy systems, epilepsy knife treatment devices, electronic gastroscopy and colonoscopy, advanced capsule endoscopy, extracorporeal lithotripsy machines, dynamic electrocardiography, dynamic blood pressure, treadmill exercise and telemetry electrocardiography monitors. The newly built 500-bed modern inpatient building has 300 orthopedic beds, planning to build the hospital into a domestically leading tertiary Grade-A comprehensive hospital featuring orthopedics within five years. The hospital's orthopedic surgery is a key discipline of higher education institutions, with spinal surgery as a provincial medical key specialty and Southern Medical University key discipline, master's and doctoral degree conferring point, and postdoctoral mobile station. Research directions include: spinal function reconstruction, spinal deformity correction, minimally invasive spinal surgery, treatment of limb and spinal trauma, bone and articular cartilage repair, biomaterial and spinal implant development. The hospital has obtained numerous national, military, and Guangdong Province scientific and technological achievements, with orthopedic surgery divided into four professional groups: spine, joint, trauma, and bone disease.
