Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University, is a tertiary Grade-A comprehensive pediatric hospital integrating medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, and healthcare. Its predecessor was the Beijing Private Children's Hospital founded in 1942 by Academician Zhu Futang, the founder of modern pediatric medicine in China. The hospital covers a total area of 70,000 square meters with a building area of 120,000 square meters, 970 authorized beds, over 3 million annual outpatient visits, over 70,000 inpatients, and over 23,000 surgeries. In 2017, the hospital was approved by the National Health Commission (formerly National Health and Family Planning Commission) to become the National Children's Medical Center, and in 2019 was approved to establish the National Children's Tumor Monitoring Center, providing big data support for childhood blood diseases and malignant tumor prevention and control. The hospital has strong technical capabilities, possessing the national key discipline of pediatrics, the National Respiratory System Disease Clinical Medical Research Center and 10 other national platforms, 5 national clinical key specialties, 5 Beijing key laboratories, 2 Beijing-level research platforms, and 16 municipal medical centers. The hospital has established a difficult case consultation center and a national telemedicine consultation center, completing over 1,000 various disease consultations annually. The diagnosis and treatment level of pediatric difficult and critical diseases ranks first domestically, serving as chairman/chairman-elect of the national pediatrics and pediatric surgery branches.
