Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Center (Shanghai Eye Hospital) is the city's only tertiary eye disease specialty hospital, undertaking the dual functions of eye disease prevention and treatment throughout the city. The hospital is a tertiary medical unit directly under Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center and a medical institution named by the Shanghai Red Cross. The center is also a teaching and research base for the School of Public Health at Fudan University and an internship base for Shanghai Medical College, undertaking teaching tasks for the optometry department. In 2012, the hospital signed a management entrustment agreement with Shanghai First People's Hospital, combining strengths and complementing advantages to further enhance core competitiveness. In 2014, the hospital was named Shanghai Eye Hospital by the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission.
