Shanghai Chest Hospital (Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Chest Hospital) was founded in 1957 and is one of China's earliest established Grade III Class A specialty hospitals integrating medical treatment, teaching, and research, specializing in diagnosing and treating heart, lung, esophagus, trachea, and mediastinum diseases. It was designated by the Ministry of Health as a national cardiothoracic surgery training base and became Shanghai Red Cross Chest Hospital in 2004. The hospital has successively won honors such as "National Health System Advanced Collective," "National Smoke-Free Unit," "Shanghai Top Ten Units for Professional Ethics Construction," and eight consecutive "Shanghai Civilized Unit" titles. The hospital has 10 clinical departments, 13 clinical subspecialties, and 10 medical technology departments. It has 580 approved beds, 964 open beds, 22 wards, plus ICU and CCU. It has affiliated Shanghai Chest Tumor Research Institute, central laboratory, cardiovascular research laboratory, biobank, and new drug clinical trial institution, and has built a high-tech transformation park. Currently, there are 1,342 on-staff employees, including 184 chief and associate chief physicians. Among the medical team, there are 121 doctors and 136 masters, 58 doctoral and master's supervisors, and 32 enjoying State Council special allowances. It has National Health Commission outstanding young and middle-aged experts, Shanghai leading talents, Shanghai leading discipline leaders, Shanghai talent development fund recipients, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Morning Star Program, Shanghai Young Physician Training Support Program, and various other talents.
