Changning District Maternal and Child Health Hospital is a public institution founded in 1935 by renowned medical doctor and obstetrics and gynecology expert Dr. Sun Keji. It was renamed Shanghai Changning District Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in 1956. In 1993, it merged with the Changning District Maternal and Child Health Institute and was renamed Shanghai Changning District Maternal and Child Health Hospital. After reconstruction at a new location in 2002, the entire facility was relocated. The hospital occupies 11 acres with a total area of 6,947 square meters, building area of 13,000 square meters, 150 beds, and 78 square meters per bed. In the early 1950s, Soong Ching-ling, then Vice Chairman of the Central Government, and Lin Jiamei, former Director of the Ministry of Health's Maternal and Child Health Department, personally visited the hospital for inspections. In recent years, the hospital has received care and support from the All-China Women's Federation and major municipal and district party and government leaders. International medical professionals have visited for exchanges, helping the hospital develop into a high-quality, high-level maternal and child health specialty hospital serving the general public. The hospital operates 12 clinical departments including obstetrics, gynecology, family planning, neonatology, breast surgery, eugenics and genetics, and infertility specialty, along with 5 medical technology departments, a central laboratory, special needs service department, over 20 specialized clinics, and departments for women's healthcare, family planning guidance, and child healthcare. The hospital currently employs 310 staff members, including 268 healthcare professionals, 3 doctors, 9 masters, 23 senior titles, and 48 intermediate titles. The hospital has cultivated and recruited over 20 discipline leaders and maintains an advisory team of Shanghai's leading obstetrics and gynecology experts.
