Peking University First Hospital, located in Beijing's old imperial city and the closest hospital to Zhongnanhai, is a large comprehensive Grade III Class A hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, research, and prevention, serving as a central healthcare base hospital. Founded in 1915, PKU First Hospital was China's first national hospital and one of the first clinical medical schools established domestically. Over the past century, the hospital has pioneered numerous specialties and treatments in China, including the first pediatrics department (1929), urology department (1946), nephrology specialty (1950), comprehensive hospital cardiovascular ward (1950s), and pediatric neurology specialty (1961). The hospital was also the first to perform kidney transplantation (1960), introduce intraocular lens implantation (1983), coronary heart disease interventional therapy (1986), and minimally invasive lung transplantation (2005), making outstanding contributions to China's medical development.
