Guangzhou First People's Hospital (South China University of Technology Affiliated Second Hospital) was founded in 1899 (25th year of Guangxu reign) and is a Grade III Class A hospital in Guangdong Province. In 2013, it was approved by Guangzhou Municipal Organization and Establishment Commission to add the sign "Guangzhou Digestive Disease Center." The hospital has been selected for the "China Hospital Competitiveness Top 100 Hospitals Ranking" for many consecutive years and ranks among the top three in the "China Hospital Competitiveness Provincial Capital Municipal Hospitals Top 100 Ranking." The hospital consists of three campuses: main hospital, Nansha Hospital, and Hedong Branch, adhering to same-quality medical care across all three campuses. The main hospital is located at the foot of Yuexiu Mountain, beside Liuhua Lake, next to Dongfeng West Road main thoroughfare. The hospital (including Nansha and Hedong) covers approximately 180,500 square meters with medical business building area of 247,900 square meters, fixed assets of approximately 1.609 billion yuan, 2,490 approved beds, 2.5639 million total outpatient and emergency visits in 2018, and 92,100 discharged patients in 2018. The Clinical Molecular Medicine and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is a Guangdong Province medical key laboratory; traditional Chinese medicine brain disease is a Guangdong Province "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" traditional Chinese medicine characteristic specialty construction project; it has 1 national disinfection supply training base and 25 national resident physician standardized training professional bases. The hospital's professional equipment totals nearly 400 million yuan, possessing 320-slice whole-body spiral CT, MRI, DSA, color Doppler ultrasound, television fiber gastroenteroscope, 1250mA television gastrointestinal X-ray machine, and other advanced medical testing and diagnostic equipment. As South China University of Technology Affiliated Second Hospital, South China University of Technology's public experimental center, experimental animal center, engineering transformation center, and other advanced platforms are fully open and shared with the hospital, helping to enhance the hospital's scientific research construction and development. The public experimental center covers approximately 2,000 square meters, with approximately 50 million yuan invested, purchasing over 100 advanced instruments and equipment, including over 20 instruments worth over one million yuan. It has five instrument laboratories: basic instrument center, imaging center, proteomics center, pathology and immunology research platform, and metabolomics center. In March 2014, it was approved by Guangzhou Municipal Organization and Establishment Commission to be renamed Guangzhou First People's Hospital Nansha Hospital (with Guangzhou Nansha Central Hospital sign) and adjusted to direct management by Guangzhou First People's Hospital. The hospital covers a total area of 100,500 square meters with 1,000 open beds. Currently, the hospital is equipped with nearly 160 million yuan worth of advanced medical equipment and precision instruments. The opening of Nansha Hospital has improved medical service allocation in Nansha area, based in the Pearl River Delta, serving the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Hedong Branch is a directly affiliated branch of Guangzhou First People's Hospital, a new modern Grade III Class A hospital in Fangcun area, possessing advanced medical equipment while sharing large medical equipment such as CT and MR with the main hospital; the entire hospital implements computerized network management and uses optical fiber to connect with the main hospital, enabling sharing of various diagnostic and treatment data and remote consultation.
