The Fourth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital was founded in March 1954, formerly known as PLA 304 Hospital. It merged into PLA General Hospital in 2004. After 62 years of development, it has formed a trauma discipline system with burn and orthopedics as the leading specialties, general surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, urology, anesthesiology, and critical care center as the backbone. It has become a comprehensive hospital featuring trauma (burn) injury, emergency treatment, and critical illness treatment, integrating medical treatment, teaching, and research. The hospital has over 50 clinical and medical technology departments, over 1,600 beds, with annual outpatient and emergency visits reaching 1.2 million, over 50,000 inpatient admissions, and over 30,000 surgeries. It houses the PLA Institute of Burn Research (national key discipline, Beijing key discipline), PLA Institute of Orthopedics, PLA Nervous System Malignant Tumor Treatment Center, PLA Key Laboratory of Trauma Repair, and national and PLA clinical pharmacology bases.
