In the 43rd year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, Youanmen was built in the southwest of Beijing, taking the auspicious meaning of "stability and tranquility" to protect the city's well-being. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic, Mayor Peng Zhen personally came to Youanmenwai to plan the construction of Beijing Second Infectious Disease Hospital, whose architectural scale and discipline setup were the first in Asia. It was renamed Beijing Youan Hospital in 1989. Capital Medical University Affiliated Beijing Youan Hospital is a large comprehensive medical center mainly serving groups with infectious, contagious and acute and chronic related diseases and focusing on key disciplines, integrating prevention, medical treatment, healthcare and rehabilitation. The hospital was founded in 1956, covers an area of 52,250 square meters, has 710 open beds, and has established key disciplines including "viral hepatitis and liver disease, infection, immunity and biological therapy, emerging infectious diseases and AIDS, and tropical diseases and parasites."
