Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, was established in 1952, originally named Beijing Soviet Red Cross Hospital. It was the first large hospital established by the Party and government with support from the Soviet government and Soviet Red Cross after the founding of New China. In 1954, the new hospital site was completed, and Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai, President Liu Shaoqi, Commander-in-Chief Zhu De and other revolutionary leaders personally inscribed messages for the hospital. Chairman Mao specifically wrote: "Reduce people's diseases and improve people's health." In March 1957, the Soviet government officially transferred the hospital to the Chinese government, and Premier Zhou Enlai personally attended the handover ceremony. In 1970, Premier Zhou personally named it "Beijing Friendship Hospital." Currently, Beijing Friendship Hospital is a Beijing municipal tertiary Grade A comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, research, prevention and healthcare, and serves as the Second Clinical Medical College of Capital Medical University. The hospital has two campuses: Xicheng Campus and Tongzhou Campus, with Xicheng Campus located in the capital's core area and Tongzhou Campus in the city's sub-center. Beijing Friendship Hospital has a total construction scale of 305,300 square meters, with Xicheng Campus at 194,000 square meters and Tongzhou Campus Phase I at 111,300 square meters. The hospital currently has nearly 4,000 staff members, including 139 postgraduate supervisors, 531 senior professional and technical personnel, and 84 national and Beijing-level professional committee chairs, vice-chairs, and chief/deputy editors of core journals. Currently, both campuses have 2,000 open beds, with average daily outpatient visits exceeding 12,000 and annual discharged patients of 75,000. Beijing Friendship Hospital is a Class A designated medical institution for Beijing's basic medical insurance, serving patients from across the city and providing services to foreign guests and patients from all over the country. As a Beijing municipal cadre healthcare base, the hospital also undertakes medical and healthcare tasks for over 7,000 Beijing municipal and central bureau-level care recipients and healthcare subjects.
